MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR LEUPOLD

BASES

IMPORTANT: Please read these instructions completely before beginning.

Check to ensure that the magazine of the ﬁrearm has been removed or

emptied, that the action is open, and that there is not a round in the

chamber. Only after double checking to make sure the ﬁrearm is unloaded

and safe should you proceed with the installation of the base or rings.

NOTE: Use a good gun solvent and rag to remove all traces of oil and

grease from the contact surfaces of the rings, base, receiver, and

threaded holes.

1. Secure the riﬂe in a padded vise, set the bases on the receiver and

align the mounting holes.

- The levers should be on the left side of the action.

- Be sure, when installing 2-Piece bases, that the position of the rear

base does not interfere with the operation of the bolt.

- The action, length of scope, and turret location can dictate where

rings ﬁt, so check their relative positions by measuring or holding

the scope over the bases. Allow ample space on either side of both

rings to allow for later eye relief adjustments.

- For 2-Piece bases, a reversible front and/or rear base set can be

used to achieve proper spacing. Extension rings are available for

1-Piece and 2-Piece bases.

2. Secure the base to the receiver, with the Torx

screws and driver.

Tighten to 22 in-lbs.

- Due to the superior performance of Nylok

and the Torx drive

system, the use of an additional thread locker (such as Loctite

) is

not necessary. No gun oil should be applied to the screw threads.

- When screws are properly torqued, check to make sure that they do

not extend all the way through the receiver to interfere with the bolt.

CAUTION: Overtightening can cause damage.

CAUTION: Tighten Browning X-Bolt screws to 18 in-lbs.

NOTE: If a scope has insufﬁcient windage or elevation adjustment, the

problem is generally due to barrel-to-receiver misalignment. In these

cases, the following options are available for correction:

- Shimming the front and rear base or recentering the scope.

NOTE: Use a good gun solvent and rag to remove all traces of oil and grease

from the contact surfaces of the rings, base, receiver, and threaded holes.

1. Move both base levers to the unlocked position: horizontal with the

receiver and pointed toward the buttstock.

2. Insert the lower half of each ring into the hole in the base.

- The cam slot on each ring stud should face toward the buttstock.

- A little gun oil applied to each ring stud ensures smooth detaching

and reattaching.

3. Hand-tighten the levers by rotating them forward to the locked position.

Push ﬁrmly to ensure that the rings are properly locked.

- The levers lock between the 12 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions.

- The position of the two levers may not be the same when locked.

4. Rest the scope in the ring bottoms.

5. Loosely assemble the ring tops on the ring bottoms and scope using the

Torx

screws and driver.

6. Shoulder the riﬂe in your normal shooting posture, with the scope as far

forward in the rings as possible. Slowly move the scope rearward in the

rings, but just to the point where you can see the full sight picture. This

is your optimal eye relief.

- If you are mounting a variable power scope, use the highest

magniﬁcation to establish proper eye relief.

7. Check the vertical crosshair to make sure it is aligned with the vertical

axis of the riﬂe.

8. When the scope is aligned with the riﬂe, tighten the ring screws with

the Torx driver to 28 in-lbs. There should be an equal gap on both sides

of the rings.

- Due to the superior performance of Nylok® and the Torx drive system,

the use of an additional thread locker (such as Loctite®) is not

necessary. No gun oil should be applied to the screw threads.

CAUTION: Overtightening can cause damage.

The ﬁrearm is now ready to be sighted in.

DETACHING AND REATTACHING YOUR SCOPE

The Leupold Quick Release Mount System was engineered to let you

detach and then reattach your scope after it has been sighted in. This

system assures that your reattached scope will return to its precise

zeroed-in position.

To Detach:

1. Rotate the two levers rearward to the unlocked position.

2. Lift the scope/ring assembly straight up and out of the base.

To Reattach:

1. Align the ring studs with their respective holes in the base, and insert the

scope/ring assembly.

2. Lock the system down by rotating the two levers forward.

NOTE: If a scope has insufﬁcient windage or elevation adjustment, the

problem is generally due to barrel-to-receiver misalignment. In these cases,

the following options are available for correction:

- Shimming the front and rear base, or using Leupold
